The WordStar Command Emulator replicates the WordStar for DOS 7.0d pull-down menu system. The Menu Differences section describes where and why the WordStar Command Emulator menus differ from those in the original WordStar 7.0d for DOS.

WordStar menus in the Word 97-XP toolbars and Word 2007 and later 'Ribbon'

Microsoft Word 2007 introduced what Microsoft called "the Common User Interface", which is characterised by a large 'ribbon' toolbar in place of the earlier collection of smaller toolbars with pull-down menu lists.

Toolbar undo and redo buttons show bookmarks, not ^KY etc

Undo and Redo menu and toolbar items don't always detail the action to be un/redone. Some actions are listed as bookmarks - these are WordStar command actions. Word doesn't treat program code blocks as single actions. To overcome this the program uses a number of bookmarks which Word is registering as possible un/redo actions.

Non-WordStar items on the pull-down menus

Word has many features and rather than make Word into WordStar the WordStar Command Emulator tries to integrate WordStar operation into Word's features.

Quick Help menus aren't displayed

Unfortunately Word does not allow for monitoring the keyboad, except for defined hot keys, so there is no easy way to see how long you take to type a character which is what would be needed to display these menus.

Command Pull-Down Menus

The WordStar Command Emulator customises the Word's pull-down menus to make them more closely match the menus in WordStar 7.0d. These menus are not supported by Word versions that use the "Ribbon" menu; currently Word 2007 and Word 2010.
